Our Garden

Realising the importance that outdoor provision has for the extended learning opportunities for children we decided to invest financially and creatively on the development of our outdoor area.

We had once before transformed our outdoor area over 5 years ago with the help of the managers from Glanbia Cheese Factory.  As part of a challenge to develop team building skills the managers took on the role of “Groundforce” and faced with many constraints they went flat out over a weekend and totally transformed our junk yard into a very impressive children’s garden.

However since then we have had major building works taking place within and around the building and once again the garden became a junk yard.  This eyesore and lack of quality outdoor space for the children we challenged ourselves this time and planned our child centred outdoor learning environment which has become an extension of our indoors.

The garden was planned and constructed with the help of our parents, children, staff, management and most definitely our hardest working team mates, Jim and Emma.  They are parents from the nursery who are both qualified in the arts and garden design and have an international reputation in both.

We have planned, designed and now completed Phase 1 of our project with tremendous results.  Every time the children are outside we can see from their total engagement in the outdoor facility and their happy smiling faces that they are reaping the rewards and that was what the objective was.  We are all delighted. 

On Thursday 28^th November 2007 we held a Little Green Fingers planting day for parents to come along and plant a plant with their children to mark the official opening of Phase 1 of our garden.
