We are open Monday to Friday from 8am to 6pm, including most school holidays.

We are closed for 2 weeks over Christmas Holidays and Easter Monday.

  • Can my child come part-time or half days?

Yes, we offer flexible enrolment, including both part-time and half-day options.

Families can choose from two half-day sessions: morning (8am–1pm) or afternoon (1pm–6pm), depending on what suits your needs best.

Please get in touch to discuss funded spaces as we can accommodate a variety of funded options over the week.

  • Can I visit the nursery before enrolling?

Absolutely! We encourage families to visit us before making a decision. Please get in touch by email to arrange a tour — we would be delighted to show you around and answer any questions.

Please see our contact page to get in touch.

  • Is there a trial period or settling-in session?

We want every child to feel secure and happy when starting with us. As part of our enrolment process, children aged 0–3 years are offered up to 6 hours of free settling-in sessions. We work closely with families to arrange these sessions in a way that best suits both the child and their family, helping their transition into nursery. For children aged 3–5 years, we are also happy to provide a settling-in session upon request.

As part of the enrolment process, all parents complete a Care Plan and an ‘All About Me’ form. These provide our team with important information about your child’s routines, interests, individual needs and your expectations for their care. This helps us build strong relationships from the beginning and ensures we provide personalised care for every child.

  • How do I sign my child up?

To start the enrolment process, simply get in touch with us via email or phone. Alternatively fill out our form on our enrolment page. We’ll guide you through the next steps and are happy to answer any questions you may have along the way.

  • What are your fees?

Once families contact us enquiring about enrolment we provide them with a costing that suits their request. We provide full week discount & multiple child discount.
We also spread your payments over the year so that you pay the same each month.

Please get in touch for a costing to suit you and your child!

  • How can I access Land Ahoy if I don't drive?

To support families travelling to Land Ahoy, we currently offer a limited nursery bus service from Halfords at St Michael Street Bridge. However, wherever possible, we encourage families to drive directly to the nursery, allowing children to enjoy a smoother transition into their day and giving parents the opportunity to connect with staff at drop-off and collection times.

Our nursery buses run at scheduled times throughout the day and spaces are limited. Bus spaces are allocated on a first come, first served basis. If you would like to enquire about availability, please contact our team directly.

  • Is there a sibling discount?

Yes! We provide a 10% discount off your eldest child’s fees.

  • Can I use my childcare funding?

Yes. We are in partnership with Scottish Government to provide funded childcare spaces to all 3-5 year old children, and 2 year olds who fit the necessary criteria. Check if you are eligible for 2 year old funding here.

    Our standard funded sessions are 3 × 10 hour days (8am-6pm) or 5 × 6 hours days (8/8:30am-2:30pm).

If you are looking for a different session please get in touch and we also accommodate a variety of other funded options over the week if preferred.

  • Does my child need to be potty trained?

No, our staff will support you with potty training your child when they are ready. We have access to size appropriate toilets for the children and changing facilities for those in nappies.

  • Will my child have access to screens?

We recognise that technology is an important part of modern life and use it thoughtfully to support children’s learning and development. Children may have access to technology where appropriate, including cameras, tablets and laptops, helping to develop their confidence and understanding of the world around them.

At Kids Ahoy and Land Ahoy, technology is used with purpose and balance. Screens are not used to occupy children for extended periods of time, and we place a strong emphasis on hands-on play, outdoor experiences, creativity and social interaction throughout the day.

  • How often will my child be outside? What happens if it rains?

At both Kids Ahoy and Land Ahoy we believe outdoor play is an important part of childhood and everyday learning. Our children enjoy daily outdoor play in all seasons. At Kids Ahoy, our 2–3 room operates a free-flow approach where children can choose to play indoors or outdoors throughout the session, while at Land Ahoy outdoor learning is the heart of everyday nursery life.

Children are dressed appropriately for the weather and supported by staff to stay comfortable and safe outdoors. In more extreme weather, children are encouraged to come inside to warm up, dry off or take a break when needed.

We believe Scotland’s weather should be embraced, helping children build confidence, resilience and a love for the outdoors. Some of the best learning happens in the rain and puddles!

  • What should my child wear?

We recommend comfortable, weather-appropriate clothing that allows children to move freely and enjoy messy or outdoor play.

You can view our suggested kit list here for full details.

  • Where do the children nap?

We have both a designated sleep room and a covered outdoor sleeping area at Kids Ahoy. We have cosy spaces in our Land Ahoy environment, both in our sensory pod and our cosy reading corner within the indoor classroom.

Outdoor sleeping is a valued part of our daily routine and reflects our strong belief in the benefits of spending time in nature. Our experienced team carefully follows national guidance to ensure all outdoor sleep routines are carried out safely, with children’s comfort, warmth and wellbeing always at the heart of our practice.

  • What do you do to ensure the children are safe outdoors?

At Kids Ahoy and Land Ahoy, children’s safety is always our top priority. Our outdoor spaces are securely enclosed and we have carried out thorough risk assessments across all areas to ensure children can explore and play safely. We also follow all relevant policies and procedures that have been approved by Care Inspectorate to maintain a safe, secure and well-managed environment.

Children are supervised at all times by experienced staff who support them to understand boundaries, assess risks and build confidence in a safe and nurturing environment. We carry out regular safety checks of our outdoor areas and resources, allowing children the freedom to enjoy hands-on outdoor play and learning.

  • How do you communicate with parents about their child’s progress?

We believe that strong relationships with families are at the heart of providing the best possible care and learning experiences for children. We use the Famly app to keep parents regularly updated throughout the day, including information about sleep, meals, nappy changes and daily activities. Famly is also used to share observations, photographs and learning updates linked to the relevant curriculums. Each child is allocated a Key Person who is responsible for supporting their learning and wellbeing, maintaining regular updates and building strong relationships with both children and families. Parents are invited into the nursery each term to discuss their child’s progress and individual next steps in learning and development.

We operate an open-door policy, welcoming parents to speak with staff or management at any time. We also actively seek feedback from families through regular newsletters and ongoing communication.

  • What is the staff-to-child ratio?

We adhere to national regulated created by the Care Inspectorate on staff to child ratios. It can be read in more detail here. The Care Inspectorate's regulation for child staff ratios in ELC settings are

    • one adult for every 3 children aged 0 to under 2-years-old,

    • one adult for every five children aged 2 to under 3-years-old, and

    • 1 adult for every eight children aged 3 to under 8-year-old.

    • 1 adult to every 10 children aged over 8 years.

    • Where children aged three and over attend settings for fewer than four hours in any one day the adult to child ratio can be one adult to 10 children.

We opt for a 1 adult per 6 children ratio in our ELC sessions in order to promote confidence, safety and learning development in our outdoor setting.

  • What meals do you provide?

Healthy, balanced nutrition is an important part of children’s wellbeing and development. At Kids Ahoy and Land Ahoy, all snacks, lunches and light teas are freshly prepared by our nursery cook, following the Scottish Government’s Setting the Table guidance. We also take inspiration from trusted healthy food approaches, including Annabel Karmel, when creating nutritious and child-friendly meals.

We work closely with families to support individual dietary requirements and can provide alternatives for children who require dairy-free, gluten-free or other specific dietary needs.

  • What if my child is a fussy eater?

Our aim is to ensure every child feels included, comfortable and well-supported at mealtimes.

Children are gently encouraged to explore and try a variety of foods in a relaxed and positive environment. If a child does not enjoy the meal on offer, a suitable alternative will always be provided. Our experienced team also work in partnership with families to support children with fussy eating habits or developing confidence around food and mealtimes.

We follow a 3-week rolling menu, which is regularly reviewed to reflect children’s preferences, seasonal changes and feedback from families.
