Outdoor Forest Training

What do we offer?

At Land Ahoy, we are passionate about sharing our knowledge and experience of outdoor learning with other early years professionals, schools, local authorities and organisations looking to strengthen their outdoor provision.

We are now offering a range of Forest Skills and Outdoor Learning training opportunities that can be tailored to meet the needs of your setting, team, or individual practitioners. We can deliver sessions within your own environment, demonstrating how to make the most of your available resources and outdoor spaces, or host you at Land Ahoy, where you can explore our fully established outdoor learning environment and gain ideas to take back to your own setting.

Rachel Mouat, our forest leader, brings extensive experience, specialist knowledge and a genuine passion for nature-based learning. Her training combines practical, hands-on experiences with the theory and confidence needed to deliver meaningful outdoor learning opportunities for children.

We understand that every setting is different, which is why we offer flexible training options. Whether you are looking for a one-off workshop, a bespoke training day, ongoing support or a structured course, we can create a package that works for you. Training can be delivered for larger groups, small teams or individual practitioners seeking to expand their outdoor learning knowledge and skills.

Our aim is to inspire confidence, share practical ideas and help practitioners make the most of the natural world as a powerful learning environment.

If you would like to enquire about our Forest Skills and Outdoor Learning Training, please get in touch via our Contact page or call us to discuss how we can create a package tailored to your needs.

Our sessions

  • Campfire practice and fire safety, exploring how fire can be safely and meaningfully incorporated into outdoor sessions

  • Risk-benefit assessment and managing challenge outdoors

  • Nature-based learning experiences

  • Outdoor wellbeing and resilience

  • Loose parts play and natural resources

  • Developing engaging outdoor environments

  • Seasonal activities and curriculum links

  • "The most inspiring part was firstly being around to see the amazing outdoor area you and your team have developed. Secondly being provided advice and guidance from your session leader, Rachel who shared her knowledge and enthusiasm for outdoor learning."

    —D&G Council Collin Nursery Manager

  • "Our team seemed to become instantly comfortable and relaxed enough to take part. It was ideal having that connection to talking about working with children and how to include children in the whole process."

    —Orchard Nature Nursery Manager

  • "I was particularly inspired by the way outdoor activities encouraged creativity, problem-solving, and collaboration. It highlighted the value of how stepping outside the traditional classroom can make lessons more engaging and inclusive. I left the session motivated to incorporate more outdoor and hands-on elements into my own setting and practice."
